Roberts
Jul 6, 1936 — May 15, 2026
St. Lousi
Edward "Ed" Roberts, age 89, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026.
Ed was born on July 6, 1936 to Dorothy Ashal (nee Callow) and Frank Roberts in Chicago, IL, the second of two children. He graduated from Central High School in 1954. Ed entered the US Air Force in November 1954 and served in many locations including Japan. He was discharged in 1958. His passion for business led him to a career in accounting. While helping raise his family, he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with an emphasis in accounting from University of Wisconsin in 1963. Ed retired from accounting in 1999 after working over 36 years at many different companies including Touche Ross, A.O. Smith, Marathon Electric, Buseman Fuses, Southwest Electric and PVO Foods.
On July 12, 1958 he was united in marriage to Lillian Epping, his high school sweetheart, at St. Alphonsus Church in New Munster, WI. They were married for 66 years until Lil's passing in 2025. Ed's career moved them often and they lived in Milwaukee, Wauwatosa, Racine, Kenosha, and Wausau, WI along with Walnut, CA, Troy, OH and finally Chesterfield, MO in 1978. His final years were spent at the Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing facilities at both Brooking Park, Chesterfield, MO and Friendship Village, Sunset Hills, MO while he battled diabetes.
His family was the center of his world - father of James (Helen) Roberts, Jeffrey (Nancy) Roberts, Lisa (Frank) Sanfilippo, and Timothy (Barbara) Roberts; dear grandfather of Ryan (Hannah) Roberts, Kristin (Eric) Ptolemy, Frank "Nick" (Kelsey) Sanfilippo, Samuel Roberts, Maxwell Roberts, Edward "Tommy" Roberts, and Katherine Roberts; dear great-grandfather of Grayson Roberts, Hadley Ptolemy, Kaden Roberts, Quinn Ptolemy and Dylan Roberts; dear brother-in-law of Jeanne Epping, Judith Schmidt and Barbara (Mark) Wisnefski; dear uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian, his parents, his sister Gerri and in-laws Eleanor (Eugene) Robers, Marjorie (Elmer) Ketterhagen, Esther (Richard) Schmidt, Charles (Sally) Epping, Claude (Betty) Epping, Norman Epping, Roger (Romayne) Zeihen, Dale (Gladys) Epping, Leroy Schmidt, and daughter-in-law Nancy Roberts (nee Almberg).
When not spending time with family, his favorite pastimes included coin collecting, reading, doing puzzles or sudoku, playing bridge, travelling the world and cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers. He was able to travel to all of the continents, except Antarctica.
We feel so blessed to have had this man as our father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. The family would like to thank the staff of Friendship Village - Sunset Hills for their excellent care.
